Cash-on-Delivery (COD) Confirmation

Cash-on-delivery confirmation is the step where an online store verifies a COD order with the customer, by WhatsApp or a call, before handing it to the courier. Automating it filters out fake, duplicate or impulsive orders that would otherwise ship and come back unpaid.

Cash on delivery remains a common payment choice in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait and Egypt, especially for first-time buyers and lower-ticket items. Its cost to the merchant is the return-to-origin (RTO) order: the courier drives out, the customer refuses or is unreachable, and the store pays the shipping both ways plus the handling. Confirmation before dispatch is the simplest lever against RTO, and it is exactly the kind of repetitive task a human team does inconsistently at 11 pm on a Thursday.

The automated version works like this. When Salla, Zid, Shopify or WooCommerce fires the new-order webhook with payment method equals COD, the agent sends a utility template on WhatsApp within minutes: order summary, address, total, and buttons to confirm, edit or cancel. If there is no reply within a set time, a voice agent can place a short confirmation call in the customer's dialect. Confirmed orders move to fulfilment automatically; cancelled ones are released back to stock; unreachable ones are flagged for a human decision.

Things to specify when you set this up: the wait time before the voice call, whether the agent may offer to switch the order to prepaid or a BNPL option such as Tabby or Tamara, what to do when the customer changes the address mid-flow, and how confirmations are written back to the store so the operations team sees one status, not two. Nano AI's WhatsApp and voice agents share the same order context, so a customer who ignores the message and answers the call is not asked to start over.
