Voice Cloning

Voice cloning is a text-to-speech technique that builds a synthetic voice matching a real person from a recording, sometimes seconds long. Businesses use it to give an AI agent a consistent brand voice; because it reproduces an identifiable person, it requires that person's documented consent.

Standard TTS offers a catalogue of stock voices. Voice cloning goes further: it takes a sample of a real speaker and produces a model that can say anything in that voice, including sentences the speaker never recorded. Quality depends on sample length and cleanliness, and on how well the underlying TTS handles the target language. For Arabic, the question is not only 'does it sound like her' but 'does it sound like her speaking Hijazi', since dialect, rhythm and the handling of borrowed English words all have to survive the cloning.

Legitimate business uses are narrow and specific: a founder-led brand that wants its phone agent to sound like the founder; a clinic that wants the same receptionist voice on every line; a retailer that wants one voice across IVR, WhatsApp voice notes and ads. The risks are the mirror image. A cloned voice can be used to deceive; regulators and platforms are tightening rules around synthetic voices; and callers in the Gulf increasingly expect to be told when they are speaking to an AI. Some regional vendors, such as Nabrah AI, list voice cloning as a feature on their website (checked September 2026).

Nano AI's position: we will clone a voice only with written consent from the speaker that states the purpose, scope and duration of use, with the right to withdraw, and we recommend that agents disclose they are automated at the start of a call. The recording and the resulting voice model are personal data under the Saudi and UAE PDPL and GDPR, so they are stored, accessed and deleted under the same controls as any customer data. For most clients a well-chosen stock Arabic voice, tuned for pace and register, is the better and simpler choice.
